Using optimized preparation protocols, Panome Bio profiled human FFPE samples (adenocarcinoma tumors and normal adjacent tissue) with TissueBridge Metabolomics.
FFPE Tumor vs. Normal Adjacent Tissue (NAT) Metabolites
Untargeted metabolomics with FFPE delivered remarkable results:
- 200 significantly altered metabolites were detected between tumor and NAT.
- Heatmap analyses of the top 50 altered metabolites clearly distinguished tumor from normal profiles.

Pathway enrichment analysis of significant metabolites revealed 39 metabolic pathways with significant differences between FFPE tumor and NAT samples.

FFPE Validation with Fresh Frozen Tissue
Validation with fresh frozen tissue (FF) confirmed that the metabolic signatures identified in the FFPE samples were not artifacts of the preservation process, as the most significant individual metabolite hits showed a strong concordance in both sample sets.
