Panome Bio at MANA 2024: Driving Innovation in Untargeted Metabolomics

October 21. 2024

Panome Bio was proud to participate in the 2024 Metabolomics Association of North America (MANA) Conference, held October 21–24 in Tampa, Florida. As a company dedicated to advancing metabolomics through cutting-edge technology and meaningful collaborations, MANA provided a valuable platform to showcase our latest work and engage with the vibrant North American metabolomics community.

From hands-on workshops to a sponsored lunch session and multiple presentations throughout the week, Panome Bio was fully immersed in this year’s theme of advancing methods and broadening applications.

Poster Presentation

Poster #1: A Role for Untargeted Metabolomics in Cultured Meat Production Through Optimizing Media Composition and Growth Conditions

This work illustrated how our metabolomics platform can be applied to food science—identifying nutrient utilization patterns and improving media formulations for sustainable meat alternatives.

Panome Bio-Sponsored Lunch Session

Our lunch session drew a great crowd and featured two engaging talks:

  • “Problems with Current Methods for Compound ID and the Panome Bio Approach”

Presented by Dr. Ethan Stancliffe

Dr. Stancliffe addressed the limitations of conventional compound identification strategies and introduced Panome Bio’s next-generation approach for greater confidence in ID.

  • “Identification Probability as a New Potential Solution”

Presented by Tom Metz, Senior Scientist, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Tom Metz introduced the concept of probabilistic ID scoring—a promising direction for improving reliability in untargeted metabolomics.

Oral Presentation

MassID: A Cloud-Based Untargeted Metabolomics Pipeline for Enhanced Biochemical Discovery

Presented by Dr. Ethan Stancliffe

Dr. Stancliffe shared details of MassID, Panome Bio’s scalable, cloud-native metabolomics pipeline, designed to accelerate discovery by integrating compound annotation, statistical analysis, and biological interpretation.

Poster Presentations
  • Poster #6: A Flexible Cloud Framework for Untargeted Metabolomics Streamlining High-Throughput Analysis
  • Poster #27: Investigating Systemic Consequences Following the Depletion of Native Murine Intestinal Flora

These posters highlighted the versatility of Panome Bio’s platform—from technical infrastructure to biological applications in microbiome research.

Poster Presentation
  • Poster #1: Comprehensive Metabolite Profiling in Formalin-Fixed and Paraffin-Embedded Tissue

Demonstrating the feasibility of metabolomic analysis from FFPE tissue, this poster supports the extension of metabolomics to valuable archived clinical samples.

  • Poster #14: Evaluating the Concordance of Untargeted and Quantitative Metabolomics for Characterizing Metabolic Dysregulation in Colorectal Cancer
This study assessed how well untargeted and targeted data align in disease research, validating the strength of Panome Bio’s dual-platform capabilities.

Looking Ahead

MANA 2024 was an energizing and productive week of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. We’re grateful to the organizers, our co-presenters, and all the researchers who joined us in discussions at our booth, posters, and sessions. As metabolomics continues to evolve, Panome Bio remains committed to driving innovation, improving data quality, and helping researchers uncover deeper biological insights.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at MANA 2025!
